A Dozen Ways to Ace Your Next Temporary Employee Interview

Many companies perform a temporary employee interview “on the job.”  Staffing Agencies hear it all the time: “Send over the candidates that meet the qualifications, and we’ll put them on the job.

These employers are performing an interview by observation. They are looking for several things in the candidates including: a positive attitude, willingness to work, aptitude for learning, punctual arrival ready to work, and fundamental work ethic.

Other employers need face to face interviews with their temporary employees provided by staffing companies. If you are being interviewed for a temporary position, be prepared by following these steps.

  1. Be pleasant, positive and smile to show your positive attitude.
  2. Show interest in the specific job you are interviewing for.
  3. Be prepared and know the company and the person you are meeting with.
  4. Ask good questions which shows your engagement for the role.
  5. Pay attention to the interviewer and others you encounter.
  6. Be enthusiastic in your first-impression with a confident handshake!
  7. Listen as much as you talk and understand the questions before you respond.
  8. Do not interrupt your interviewer or others you encounter.
  9. Speak positively about others, your past coworkers and employers.
  10. Look at your interviewer and make constant eye contact.
  11. Say thank you for the interviewers time and interest in you.
  12. Self-reflect and evaluate your interview to find ways to do better next time.

Companies hire people that demonstrate a their work behavior and ability in the interview. They look for candidates that focus the discussion on what they (you, the candidate) can do for them (the company). Your positive attitude is reflected by facial expressions, first impressions and other behavior you exhibit. If you demonstrate confidence and listen to what is going on around you, your interviewer will remember you.
