Temporary Staffing Interview Preparation – Take It Serious

interview Temporary staffing interview preparation? Take it serious. More and more, clients of temporary staffing agencies are requiring an interview before accepting a temporary employee.

Many assignments don’t require temporary staffing firms to coordinate an interview. However, the trend is shifting toward an interview before a new temporary employee can be assigned to a client.

There are a number of reasons for this, including the increasingly more vertical focus of many staffing firms. From healthcare temporary staffing to highly skilled machine operators, engineers and even supervisory and management level operations assignments, staffing is becoming more vertical.

If you are going to an interview, be sure to prepare. The following pointers should put you in a good position to land the assignment.

The Night Before

  • Stay in and research the company. Learn about their business and what they do so you can relate your abilities to needs the employer has.
  • Write down 3 or 4 questions you want to know about the company and position that you can ask the people you meet in the interview.
  • Do not go out the night before. Do not drink alcohol or anything that would make you less sharp in your interview the following day.
  • Get a good night sleep.

The Morning Of Your Interview

  • Dress appropriately. Where clean pressed clothes that show you care about appearance.
  • Don’t smoke – even if you do smoke, try not to show up to the interview smelling like smoke. Most workplaces don’t allow smoking, and arriving with an odor is never a good idea.
  • Before you leave the house, make sure you have your legal documentation available since all reputable staffing companies E-Verify your eligibility to work.  Your temporary assignment may ask to see it.
  • Leave for the interview early and give plenty of time to arrive 10 minutes early.

At the Employer

  • Shake hands firmly and introduce yourself by your first an last name to everyone you meet.
  • Walk confidently and at a pace to keep up with your interviewer.
  • Sit upright and attentive with good posture.
  • Pay attention, look interviewers in the eye.
  • Fill out the client interview paperwork truthfully and completely.
  • Answer interview questions with clear, but brief responses.
  • Ask two or three questions about the job or employer.
  • Interview for THIS opportunity. Do not try to change the position in the interview, as this will quickly show you were not interested in what the employer had to offer you.
  • Get the names and business cards of the people you meet.
  • Thank each person you meet, including the receptionist.

After the Interview

  • Call your temporary staffing agency and let the recruiter know how your meeting went. Be honest even if it didn’t go well. Your recruiter knows the hiring manager and can explore more about your impressions.
  • Send a brief thank-you email to the people you met at the employer, and indicated your readiness to start the assignment.
